Tom Fortune the new GM of Heavenly.  The reason I got my cool last name is because of this guy-Tom Fortune.  He took the helm as General Manager at Heavenly Resort this fall.  He just started a blog for skiheavenly.com and I thought it would be fun to share his first one for 2019.  “This is my weekly blog, which will highlight the behind the scenes work that goes into operating the mountain.  I will also introduce standout employees, feature signature Heavenly events, and explore timely topics in depth.  Each week, you’ll be hearing directly from me about the latest and greatest from Heavenly from my vantage point,” says Tom.

I’ve been in the ski industry for over 40 years-Tom Fortune the new GM of Heavenly

and I have worked in a variety of roles at five different ski resorts across the country.  For instance a few of these other resorts are: Schweitzer, Stevens Pass, and SnowKing Resort.  This is my second stint at Heavenly after being at Kirkwood Mountain Resort for the past three years, where I was senior director of mountain operations, and most recently vice president and general manager.

So Tom the new GM of Heavenly Resort is a long time local to South Lake Tahoe and he is now fortunate enough to call this place and this mountain home.  He is looking forward to sharing what makes Heavenly Resort such an incredible place to visit, ski, ride and enjoy as we gear up for the 2019-2020 winter season.  

It’s been a long summer and after such an incredible winter last year, I’m ready to hit the slopes. It’s hard to believe we finished out last season skiing on Memorial Weekend! 

Importantly tomorrow we will be kicking off the season by opening the Heavenly Gondola for sightseeing as well as our mountain coaster. With the temps and natural snow we have gotten, and a cold forecast, we are targeting to open our mountain for skiing and riding on Wed., Nov. 27.

I am so proud of the amazing and dedicated team

who works around the clock to make this resort operate, and am looking forward to showcasing more about our snowmaking operations and team in coming posts.
